It's easy to say "organic"! Let's clarify the differences between organic, natural, and sustainable.
Organic, natural, eco-friendly… but what do they really mean?
How many times have you read words like “organic,” “natural,” or “eco” on labels?
They are often used in a confusing or even misleading way, making it difficult to understand whether a product is truly sustainable and controlled.
It's time to clear things up!
What does organic really mean?
A product can only be defined as organic if it is certified according to a specific standard.
In Europe the reference is EC Regulation 834/2007 , which provides:
- No GMOs.
- Reduced or absent use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers.
- Seasonal crops and field rotation.
- Use of natural fertilizers and biological control.
✅ Only certified products can legally use the word “organic”.

Be careful with the terms: "natural" is not synonymous with "organic"
Terms like “natural,” “eco,” “green,” or “organic” are not regulated .
They can appear on packaging or company names even without certifications .
It's not illegal, but it can be misleading .

How to behave at the farmers' market?
At the market you often find local, fresh and zero-mile products.
But be careful: organic certification is expensive and not all small producers can afford it, even if they work naturally.
➡️ Ask the manufacturer directly:
- Do you grow seasonally?
- Do you use pesticides?
- Do you practice field rotation?

How to make your shopping more sustainable
Here are some habits that make a difference:
- Bring a reusable bag or basket .
- Choose loose products, without packaging.
- Favor seasonality and local origin .
- Support those who work with respect for the environment.
